PROJECTS

More Coming Soon With Your Support!

Background:

Our founder has been actively involved in charity work since 2003. It started with local aid to communities in San Jose that needed attention and help. She would go out to fundraise for families in need, the homeless communities, and underprivileged children. She would also travel every year to Vietnam to sponsor projects for poverty-stricken villages and towns.

During one of her personal projects that she took to Da Nang, Vietnam, she funded a water filtration system, which would allow the village to receive clean accessible water. This project inspired us to focus on essential access to basic necessities, such as access to water by building water wells and bringing clean drinking water to those in need. In 2006, our founder visited the "Mai Thanh The" Grade school in a small village in Bac Lieu, Vietnam. After visiting the school, she saw a need for investment in education and decided to provide all the students scholarships and funds for tuition. What began as a small project to provide supplies, actually ended up kick-starting our annual scholarship program. We started this program in 2006, and to this day, we still make it a promise to provide annual scholarships towards education.

In her travels, the poverty and pain she witnessed were profound. Many of these projects went undocumented, because they were always her personal projects. Today, she spreads this mission beyond herself. Driven by the stories of the individuals she helps and those who donate, our founder decided to start Light Dream Foundation to spread our mission and to go beyond our own neighborhoods to spread goodwill to those who need it most.

A 100 percent donation policy is a defining characteristic of Light Dream Foundation. Our founder realized that there was a deep mistrust of charities: People didn't necessarily know whether their money was going to support the cause or the bureaucracy of a non-profit. For that reason, she decided to commit Light Dream Foundation to have every penny of the money the public donates go to the water projects, food and clothes as needed, and education. Any other expense or operational cost is all out of pocket.

Bac Lieu (2016)

The initial goal of this project is to provide supplies for the children of  the "Chau Hung School" in Bac Lieu, Vietnam. We donated 430 backpacks with a year's worth of school supplies total and a pair of shoes to the each of the students.  We also invested in 30 students' education by providing scholarships at the beginning of the school year. The top 15 students of the class received 5 million Vietnamese "dong" towards a higher education, and the other 15 students received a year’s worth of tuition funds. We hope to spread scholarship opportunities like this one to more children located in third world countries.

Pleiku (2018)

We traveled to a village in Pleiku, Vietnam, where we donated $5,000 worth of food, such as rice, ramen, and other ingredients to cook meals for 157 families. We also donated 1,000,000 Vietnamese "Dong" to each family. Currently, we are building a water pump and well to supply easier access to clean water.

Butte County

Wildfire (2019)

The Camp fire, which began Nov. 8, tore through the town of Paradise in Butte County, destroying and damaging thousands of buildings. The devastating fire wiped out 95% of the City of Paradise, killing at least 49 people in town and seven others in the surrounding area. Thousands of homes and businesses were destroyed, leaving most of the city a charred ruin.

The morning the news of the Camp Fire broke out, it completely struck our team. We could simply could not ignore this tragedy, so our team visited the dire situation in Paradise, California.

Our hearts hung heavy as we drove through the devastating sites, and seeing countless people wait in line for basic necessities to survive was heartbreaking. We decided to take action by raising money to provide support for the hurting community. With the holidays coming up, we hosted a Christmas "party" in Chico, California, called Meals Of Love. During this event, we donated $100 gift cards and checks from $500 to $2,000 to the families with unique circumstances and families with children.

Currently, we are still working on our ongoing project with the Paradise School Districts to rebuild and support students from Paradise schools in the future.
